There is a very good reason why quality bolt manufacturers for both aircraft and automotive fields use bolt stretch as opposed to torque figures for fastener assembly.  Torque readings are affected by bolt condition, nut condition, material used, lubricant, bearing surface, accuracy of wrench, type of socket, etc.  All of these are variables and do influence proper assembly.  PMS will help to eliminate these variables by developing an accurate yet straight forward approach to checking rod bolt stretch.
